Silent Period
Burmese People need the silent period before they can speak English. Because when I teach English, Most Burmese People want their speaking English to happen very fast. The truth is "You cannot force yourself to do that". We need the silent period. Silent means no speaking, no words or
quiet. Period means time but a long time. So, Silent period means
listening to English for a very long time before we can speak English.Let me tell you "why". To be fluent in any language. We need the silent period. We need to listen to English for a very long time. Unfortunately, most Burmese people, they want to speak English well but they don't want to learn or listen to English every single day. You need to learn English or listen to English every single day for 6 months without stopping. If you want to speak English very well, every day you have to spend 1 hour or 2 hours on learning English or listening English. You need to do that for 6 months. After 6 months of learning English that way, you will start to speak English with very simple, direct, easy sentences or phrases.
You have one more thing to do. When you start leaning English, DON'T choose very difficult English. It cannot help you speak English very easily. So, in the beginning, when you start learning English, Use or Choose very easy English. You have to master all the very easy, simple English first.
I've seen many times with a lot of Burmese People who are learning English, they think that "I am an adult English learner. That means I must learn very difficult English, in the beginning. No, that is not ture. If you think that way, You have the wrong ideas about learning English. You will not improve your English.
I am telling you that you need 6 months to speak English very well. But sometimes for other people, it depends on their language and how close their language is. Burmese and English, they are not close but Most Burmese People, when they are young, they have learned English for a very long time and they are familiar with English language. For Burmese People, that's why you need 6 months.
Sometimes, it depends on people. After 6 months, some people can speak English but maybe the other people cannot. In this situation, we should look at the babies. Some babies can speak English after 1 year or many months, some cannot. Same with adults. Everyone is different. If that happens to you, keep learning and listening to English. Finally, you will get to the point where you can speak English easily and very well.
Finally, I want to tell you about the method. Here in Myanmar, Most People use English Text Book and they use their eyes to learn English. To understand English quickly and Speak English very well, you DON'T have to use your eyes. Instead, you have to use your ears. Most Burmese People, they don't understand that. Also, in the English Text Book, that English is not real, it is a fake English. Nobody uses that kind of English in real English conversation. Even Native English speakers never use that kind of English when they learn English. So, why are we? Don't use any English Text Book, if you want to understand quickly and speak English very well. Listen to real English.
You have to find Real English, not the English Text Book English.
